RIM ha estado haciendo demasiado alarde de su tablet, Blackberry Playbook, y no es por defenderlos, pero tienen con que hacerlo. Playbook tiene algunas cosas que no me terminan de cuadrar, pero tiene otras tantas que llaman activamente mi atención. Por ejemplo, poseerá un sistema operativo totalmente desconocido para las masas pero para nosotros, lo que vivimos en este mundo, es un viejo conocido que ha demostrado adaptarse perfectamente a la actualidad y ha demostrado tener el potencial para competir con los grandes lideres de este segmento. Lamentablemente no parece estar recibiendo el trato que merece.
Esta tableta nos tiene en ascuas a muchos y no será hasta su lanzamiento oficial que la podremos juzgar como debe ser, por esto, analistas, gurus y profetas buscan adelantarse a los hechos dándonos de comer a los que estamos hambrientos por descubrir un dispositivo que de verdad pueda hacer lo que todos esperamos.
Lo que hoy tratamos es un rumor raro y prácticamente absurdo al ver quienes se encuentran involucrados. RIM y Google, ambas con plataformas propias, una más popular que la otra, pero las dos capaces de sobrevivir por si sola. Entrando de lleno en el rumor, caemos en que RIM podría dar compatibilidad a las aplicaciones de Android en sus próxima tableta basada en QNX. ¿Es esto posible? No es imposible emular aplicaciones, pero, a mi parecer esto afectaría el rendimiento, incluso estarías gastando el tiempo que no tienes por encontrar la compatibilidad con sistemas ya existentes. Por otro lado, BGR comenta que RIM podría valerse de Dalvik, la maquina virtual de código abierto que permite lanzar aplicaciones Java y se encuentra dentro de la estructura de Android.
Parecer una salida fácil, lo que me lleva preguntarme: ¿Por qué no crear aplicaciones diseñadas específicamente para el sistema operativo al cual estas basando tu dispositivo? Quizás miedo a comenzar de cero, no lo sé. Sería una gran ventaja para nosotros, sí, ¿pero qué gana RIM? Simple, darle mayor popularidad a Android y dejar en el olvido a un sistema operativo en bruto. Claro todo esto considerando que sea cierto tal movimiento.
Asumiendo de nuevo que esto sea cierto, queda claro que RIM sólo busca una salida fácil, pues lo términos a los que está sujeto Android validan lo que posiblemente quiera hacer Research In Motion. Esto tendrá su desenlace muy pronto, y a mi personalmente me inquieta saber qué demonios tiene en mente la gente de RIM.
